Foodies Take Note… Our Dish on DR!

Where do you bring a group of travel industry veterans for an ID Travel Group Annual Company Meeting? A question we ponder each year. We have so many wonderful destinations to choose from that strategically picking one locale is quite the challenge. This year, lucky for us, we selected the Dominican Republic…

After four nights of exploring, it was easy to see why we all “re-fell” in love with this diverse destination.

In this trip’s travels we explored La Romana, home to the unique Caribbean classic, Casa de Campo – offering a myriad of activities for children, families and honeymooners alike. We definitely had some fun with this one! Daily activities such as skeet shooting…

…and exploring the charming colonial village of Altos de Chavon. Each activity truly provided a one-of-a-kind Caribbean experience.

Aside from peaceful afternoons being pampered by villa staff and indulging in a soothing spa treatment – the various cuisine options truly impressed our team and had us ALL wanting more!

ID’s INSIGHT: One of ID’s favorite restaurants at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic is La Casita, located at the marina, featuring open air dining and locally caught fresh fish.  Try the Langoustines grilled to perfection, all while enjoying live music and flamenco dancers.  We loved it so much, we went back for a repeat performance! At least you can dance off dessert of Bizcocho de Chocolate!”

After indulging in all this fantastic 7,000 acre Caribbean playground had to offer, the ID team made their way to the unspoiled, still unexplored by most, North Coast locale of Puerto Plata…

Here a true hidden gem, Gansevoort Dominican Republic, Playa Imbert, brings a refreshingly sexy NYC vibe to this unique destination.

Aside from ideal weather and serene beaches, the surrounding area is abundantly rich in local culture and is a “must explore” for guests of all ages. The nearby town of Cabarete, a local surfing haven, is a perfect day trip option to mingle with locals, dine on the beach with toes in the sand and watch the incredibly talented kite surfers majestically soar amongst the waves.

In addition to the ultra-chic expansive accommodations, luxury service and picturesque views from almost every angle, the Gansevoort Playa Imbert is quickly becoming known for its outstanding cuisine. It was the impeccably fresh ingredients and unique fusion of local elements that impressed our discerning palates!

ID’s INSIGHT: For foodies and wine connoisseurs, we highly recommend a visit to La Cantina Wine + Cigar Cellar. A nine-course menu and wine pairing experience will introduce travelers to the local Dominican flavors with 5-star style.

While relaxing pool or beachside, watch the local catch of the day arrive; the tuna trilogy is a MUST along with the fresh mozzarella and mascarpone imported from Italy.  Top the night off with a nightcap of Brugal Papa Andres Dominican rum.  In the morning indulge in the pastries, freshly baked and served warm right from oven to table — we promise you won’t want to leave!

…While half our team was busy exploring Gansevoort on the North Coast, the other half made their way to Punta Cana to experience the exciting Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa. This unique adults-only resort is one of the newest all-inclusive properties in Punta Cana offering a vibrant, modern experience with an abundance of activities.

Private luxury cabanas await guests offering champagne and endless ocean views. Our butler made sure our glasses were always full, while our taste buds were tantalized by small bites throughout the picture-perfect afternoon.

Cuisine on property was certainly a high-point of this vivacious stay, as our staff couldn’t stop raving about the unique dining delights!

ID’s Insight: The resort’s French restaurant, Coquette is a must try! Our favorite was the melt-in-your-mouth lobster carpaccio followed by roasted angus beef with pumpkin and porcini sauce. This gastronomic experience prepared us for a long night of dancing and hookah ahead!
